Can an unlocked boost phone be used with an active nextel sims card and account?

I broke my nextel phone while still on contract (no insurance either). Can I get an unlocked boost mobile an insert my sims to replace my nextel phone? Will this work? Ebay sellers are claimer their unlocked boost phones can work with nextel or boost.
