Just recently, the big three (i.e. Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint) have recently aligned all of their plans. So if the plans are the same, the biggest differences are the coverage and service. Check out these links to determine coverage in your area:

http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLocatorController?requesttype=NEWREQUEST

http://www.cingular.com/support/maps.do

http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/coverage/CoverageInfo.jsp?ATR_ExtraOne=UHP_Personal_Coverag e

Key note to remember: Sprint has contracts with other cell phone carriers to use their towers. So I am betting that so do other carriers.

Also check out this website for expert opinions. You won't have access to the full site, but you will have access to the most recent headlines.
Hope this helps.

Cingular for beacuse it has many pro's.
T-Moble it has plans for everyone.
Metro PCS good because it is realy cheap if you don't want to speand much.
Verison because it's got you covered 24/7!
Try going to the websites to see some pro's about each!
I LOVE T-MOBILE!

A regional carrier is almost always your best bet, with less customers, customer satisfaction almost always improves, and with the extensive roaming agreements that carriers have, you get the best coverage wherever you are at.
Regional carriers also normally have the best rates as well, So I would say US Cellular or Alltel are your best bets.

Well I have worked for Sprint and Cingular. I can tell you that Sprint is EXPENSIVE. I found the plans are way overpriced (the fair&flexible plan has gone from $5.00 for an extra 100mins, to $5.00 for an extra 20mins in the last 8-9months).. Sprint also has poor customer service. The way Sprint trains the customer care is careless. All sprint cares about is revenue and making more money. Cingular on the other hand has the "Customer Rules" concept. They are also more trained.
Any company you find will have its downfalls. I don't think many people out there really like their service provider. You need to figure out what you want in a plan and compare the different carriers plans.. also make sure you check the coverage maps because you don't want to sign a contract with a company to find they don't have good signal in your area. The phone you want will be the next one you must decide on.. I like GSM technology phones because you can use a SIM Card and if you get it unlocked you can use it for international travel (they can be used in europe etc). If you go with Sprint/Verizon they have CDMA technology phones which are only good in the U.S and Canada.

I'm going with Cingular when my contract with Verizon expires. My friends who have Cingular get much better reception and customer service.

t-mobile for me. very happy with them. not always the most cheap, but very reliable, good service, nice phones for free with the subscription. not expensive either.
