My sister-in-law gave me her Sprint cell phone - what do i need to do so that...

...i can use the phone? My sister in law gave me her old Samsung SPH-A900 Cell Phone (Sprint Carrier) and i am sending it to my Father because I am using T-Mobile and i have no use for it. My father has Sprint carrier, what does he need to do so that he can use the phone once he gets it? does sprint phone have SIM cards?
