Default Can a T-Mobile cell phone be put on vacation?

I've heard that a cell phone can be put on vacation and you only have to pay a nominal monthly fee for it. I currently have a sidekick 3 and it's pretty much unusable (won't charge, buttons are broken, etc). I would have to pay full price to get a new phone and I really don't want to do that. I also don't want to pay $200 to cancel the plan.

Anyone know how the whole vacation thing works with T-Mobile???
