Call the CS instead of going to a local T-mobile store. Ask the CS if you are eligible for upgrade. This is what happened to me. Our 2-yrs contract will end June next year, about a month ago I called the CS and they said we're having the good account (never get over the minutes we have) and always paid the monthly bill, so with that being said we are able to upgrade to a new phone if we want to. That means we're qualify to get the mail-in-rebate discount for certain phones.
So... give it a try, if you think You've been "good", call the CS.
