Default Can US Cellular force Me to buy a GPS enabled Cellphone?Please...

...Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? I have a Bag Phone that I am very Happy with. It's an Audiovox, probably one of the last made.Very Compact, much smaller than My first One.I like the Tone Quality,Signal Strength, Dialpad, Display, everything. And Ican carry it around. And 12 Volts is very easy to find.Laugh if You want, but when the Local Tower was knocked out after the Hurricane,My so-called Antique piece of Junk worked when others failed! There is a "Slight" difference in .6 Watts, and 4.0 Watts! Try telling US Cellular that! I got a Very Nasty Note from them, along with My Bill, informing Me that I Must Buy a New, GPS enabled " Big Brother" Phone for My own good! They say that It's an FCC Public Safety Regulation, but they don't say which Regulation! Also, in addition to buying a Phone that I don't want, I have to extend My Contract by Two Years! And, if I don't go along with the Program, I'll be charged a "Non Compliance Fee". I already pay for the 911 Surcharge on both My Cell Phone Bill, as well as My Landline Bill.!

I suspect the real reason is your old phone is analog and they want you on digital. Analog coverage will dissapear eventually.

You need to call the company and explain it can't be NONCOMPLIANCE if it was NOT in your CONTRACT. If they still insist file a complaint. If you have to get nasty do it. Tel them you are going to switch companies and the only reason you signed with them was because they seemed honest and they were until they screwed you over. Tell them you want to talk to the supervisor. GOODLUCK

The FCC requires all cellular providers to only provide equipment with GPS. Last I knew, a non-GPS cell phone could not be activated (REactivated) and they could not be sold. However, as far as our company is concerned (it might be different for yours) any phone that has remained active since this law went into effect, is still capable of being used. IT is important to note that once the service is turned off for the phone, it can NEVER be reactivated though. So if your service was cancelled, you'll have to by a new phone.Hope this helps!
