Verizon Wireless Cell Phone Upgrade?

I have a Verizon Wireless account. I am not eligible to upgrade this year but my wife is. Can I order the new phone on her upgrade for the discounted price and then when it is activated take it into a store and switch them? Is this possible, or is there a better way? Thanks in advance.
