Verizon, can I activate it as my phone? I am on a Verizon Plan, but if anything happens to my phone, is this a possibility?

I work at customer service for verizon, you have to be on prepaid for 6 months to activate it on a regular verizon account. The only reason this is done is because prepay phones are cheaper, you have to pay your dues unfortunately.
