how do i keep my .Mac account in sync with my iPhone?

I have an iPhone & a .Mac Email account but when I delete a message on my iPhone it still stays in the inbox when I check my mail on the computer. When I register my Gmail Account it deletes it from the server how do I make my .Mac account on my iPhone like Gmail
