is there anyway apple through updates can change the iphones to allow video recording and picture/video messaging...or do they have to create a whole new phone in order to have these things.

Not entirely. They can update it to allow for video recording, mms, and many many other things. This has been done already by "jailbreaking" the current iPhone. This is a process that allows users to install their own applications and add features that Apple has decided not to add themselves. Such as the above ones mention as well as themes, and backgrounds and tons more!

There is no way to update the video conferencing however, as there is no camera on the front of the iPhone.

Yes, it can be fixed with an update.

IF the iPhone 3G is not capable of sending MMS, that could be theoretically fixed with a firmware update. Video recording is tricky. The camera can be altered by software to create videos.


But may I remind you that if you Jailbreak your iPhone, then MMS, video recording, and much more of those features that people complain about not having are actually a reality.

People are just ill-informed or not willing to Jailbreak their iPhones.
