What's a good excuse for a hairline crack on an iphone 3g to convince Apple...

...Genius bar to replace it for free? I got a hairline crack on the LCD of my new iphone 3g, and on the web there have been stories that Apple will replace it for free? How is this true if accidents aren't covered in the warranty?
