iPhone for AT&T; iTunes for BOTH mac and PC. Why not iPhone for Verizon?

Since iTunes is for mac AND pc, why cant the iPhone be universal for all carriers (Verizon, sprint, etc)? Apple would make a buttload of more money, and A LOT more people would be able to purchase this spectacular device.

Opinions?
