Please do not include prepaid service (such as Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile), but only contracted service (such as Alltel, Nextel, Cingular, etc.). My buddy is a long haul truck driver, and he is sick of prepaid mobile which costs too much. He is on the road for weeks on end, and would like to know what mobile phone gets the best service and the most extensive coverage. Thank you in advance as I appreciate your advice immensely. :-)

I like Verizon, they have good coverage all over the country.

Cingular works best for us. My husband is also an over-the-road truck driver. We have had our existing plan for a couple of years and have been very pleased so far. There are always spots where the coverage is not good or you will drop calls but for the most part, we almost always have a good signal. He will need a pretty good size plan, though. All of our driving friends use their phones constantly, for work and for friends and family. Our plan is 4000 anytime minutes with free mobile to mobile, rollover, and all the extras so we pay about $200 a month. Of course, that is tax deductible as a business expense.
