Default What cell phone service is cheapest for a "pay as you go" type thing?

I'm looking for the cheapest possible cell phone plan. I live in an area that has no coverage, so it's mostly for when I go to town... if I'm lost, need to call my husband to see if he needs something from the store, etc. I want something for emergencies, and maybe a little more. I won't use it everyday, but maybe three days a week, for a couple minutes each day. Some "pay as you go" plans seem outrageous - $1 per day you use it, plus 25 cents per minute. And, you have to have a minimum amount on your phone, and it doesn't roll over the next month if you don't use it. Is there a better plan out there?
