Default Changing cell phone services and keeping the number?

I currently have verizon wireless and I want to switch over to t mobile. I want to know if I can bring my number with me and automaticly get a new number for the verizon so I dont have to pay that cancelation fee for canceling the verizon account. THANKS FOR VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!
What i really want to know is when i transfer my number to t mobile can i get a new number where the old one used to be?

yes you can keep your same number, my friend did the same thing and he still has the same number
