I live in a community with no CELL PHONE SERVICE!

I just moved into a community with no cellular phone service at all! The town is very rural and all but, I still need to contact my family and friends! There is many mountains in the community, so is that why there is no service? What should i do?

Also, Verizon DSL doesn't work there, only Roadrunner and dial-up. :s.
Please no one tell me to move out of the town, because I can't.
