Suggest a Samsung Phone?

I am planning on buying a new phone next month. I prefer it to be a samsung, something a bit luxurious but not unbelievably expensive ($270 or so is good - $380 maximum).
- Would I have compatibility problems when exchanging files or songs with friends using NOKIA or SONY ERICSSON?
- What are usual problems or disadvantages with Samsung phones?
- What are usual advantages of Samsung phones?
