why only the top 8 players in the Tennis Masters Cup & Sony Ericsson Championships?

why not the top ten? i think the eight does wholy represent the best performers during the year. I mean it's really hard to get into the top 10 and it's not fair for those in the 9th and the 10th position not to be included. why just the top 8 then? pls help me understand...
