Deleting protected files on Sony Ericsson cell phones?

I have a Sony Ericsson w600i (walkman phone) and I'm trying to delete some of the pre-loaded items on it (wallpapers, ringtones, etc.) but everytime I try to delete them I get a message that says "Protected file -- cannot delete" Is there any way I can 'unprotect' these files...?
