Default My father is on att wireless out of kansas city. I am going to go on the family plan
will I be able to? get my local area code for my cell phone. He is in a 913 (kansas) and I am in Nashville (615) and I pay the bill.

Yes you can, this is not a problem. When you sign up on the plan, they will ask where you want your home area to be. They can program them for anywhere you want. My dad and sister are currently doing the same thing.
