ATT Wireless which cell phones have better connections?

I have a Motorol V557 which I hate. I am going to upgrade. We have a hard time getting a connection/signal in my mother in law's house. I wondered if anyone knew what phones might have a better signal/connection than another phone. Thank you.
ETA that I am not going to pay an arm and a leg so the Iphone is out...

i have att and all of their phones have horrible connections and 90% of my calls get dropped

the v557 sucks! i would recommend getting a samsung or blackberry, cingular is GSM so their network is good, but sprint is the best!

I have AT&T and I have had several phone's and I can't get good signal on any.. I have a Samsung slide phone now and it's a little better then the others..
