Default Bell Mobility Question?

My phone broke and I looking to purchase a contract free phone. Since Bell is using CDMA, I was wondering if I can buy a phone from another network (Say Sprint) and use it with Bell? Has anyone tried it?
I also thought of buying a prepaid one, but I read somewhere that Bell doesn't want to activate a Solo Mobile phone if I chose to use it as a replacement for my old phone.
