What is the best method of boosting mobile phone signal?

I've just moved house to an area where you can only get one bar at best of mobile signal. I know there are a variety of antennas and things out there to boost mobile signal.

So, what works the best to boost signal on a domestic basis? How does it work? And give me the pros and cons...
